Well, that’s a wrap! 2022 was an incredible year for Decarbon.

I started Decarbon as a way for me to learn how to code. 2022 was the year that I attempted to transform this app into something legit. A business! 👨‍💼

While we still have a ways to go before we can ride off into the sunset of success, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the great things that happened this year.

2022 Highlights

We launched our app, and people didn’t hate it 🚀

A lot of people were actually intrigued by the concept behind Decarbon – giving everyone a free, simple way to track their carbon emissions over time, based on their spending.

Even ABC7 thought Decarbon was noteworthy:

This was a really exciting and motivating moment towards the beginning of the year, and provided our first wave of early adopters who shared helpful feedback on how to improve the experience.

~5,000 users have given Decarbon a try 🤯

It’s mind-blowing to think that so many people from all over the world have signed up for our lil’ app. If you’re one of them - THANK YOU!

We decided to focus on businesses first 👀

What these early users have shown us is that, despite the concept being intriguing, a carbon budgeting experience for individuals is not yet something most people are willing to stay engaged in… yet. And carbon credits are a whole other can of worms.

What’s more, shouldn’t businesses and governments step up first to act on climate change?

Ultimately, yes.

Towards the end of this year, we decided to shift our focus to serve our business users, help them go net zero, and help them communicate these sustainable practices to their customers. Put another way, we want to establish Decarbon as a resource for anti-greenwashing. More to be announced soon.

If you own or manage a business/organization, let’s chat.

Well hello, 2023

We’re just getting started! 😤 There’s so many exciting things to explore within the carbon accounting space. Like, what if businesses and individuals could come together to support one another in lowering their climate impact? That could be cool.

Finally, a huge huge thank you to everyone who’s supported and contributed to Decarbon this year. Joel, Zack, Bevin, Ram, Acacia, Rachel, Alan, Dhanvi, Jesse, Mira, Nicole, Josh, Alex, Ward, Nurit, Jessica.

This year Decarbon went from nothing to something. I can’t wait to see where the new year takes us.
